A Research Competitiveness award has funded a team of researchers at LSU-Baton Rouge led by Dr. Jeffrey Blackmon in constructing MiniLENS, a prototype of a next-generation instrument that will precisely measure for the first time the neutrinos resulting from hydrogen fusion in the core of the sun. This collaborative group has developed theoretical simulations of the instruments, and constructed a smaller prototype on the LSU campus.
