To assist LaSIP project teams in locating good standardized teacher-participant metrics, the FY 2011-12 LaSIP RFP proposed using COMPASS®, a comprehensive online assessment program developed and marketed by ACT. COMPASS is not intended to substitute for project-designed pre- and post-assessments; rather, pre- and post-results from COMPASS should provide a solid basis for evaluating the strengths of LaSIP programs and identifying areas needing improvement. COMPASS should also provide LaSIP with a statistically reliable and valid measure of teacher knowledge gains. After the LaSIP summer 2011 projects end, an evaluation of COMPASS will be designed to determine if the assessment tool is worthwhile.
