Louisiana, like much of the US, is in need of large numbers of health care professionals and nursing programs are faced with increased pressure to produce graduates capable of providing safe, competent patient care. Through an Undergraduate Enhancement grant and a partnership with North Oaks Health System, Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing has established additional competency labs and simulation equipment. Both the students and North Oaks are benefitting enormously from these new opportunities to perform clinical assessment and evaluation, as well as practice health care skills in a controlled environment.
