The destruction of Hurricane Katrina brought attention to the capabilities and constraints of existing pumps. In response to the deficiencies of existing technology, a research team at the University of New Orleans, funded by the Industrial Ties Research Subprogram, is collaborating with an industrial partner to develop the technology and build models of an innovative pump that incorporates a variety of existing technologies and features into a more effective pump to help address future flooding problems.
