A researcher at the LSU Agricultural Center, with help from an Industrial Ties Research Subprogram grant, has found new, safe ways to cook frozen oyster products. Steam venting packaging materials make preparation of frozen oysters convenient and easy, while also eliminating many of the dangers from incorrect thawing and contamination during processing. The products made possible by this research could be marketed to the public through retail outlets and restaurants.
