A LA GEAR UP Make A Difference Grant supports a unique, STEM-based, career readiness project at the Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy West in Iberville Parish. The “Young Designers Program” develops students’ design abilities while increasing their awareness of career and educational opportunities in the design field. Led by Danielle Martin, an LSU School of Architecture student, the program uses architectural drawing, 3d software and computer modeling to teach students to convey their ideas through STEM applications of design. This year, participating students created classroom spaces, a greenhouse and a recycling center, while using environmentally friendly building techniques, including solar panels, a green rook, wind turbines, natural light, and passive ventilation!
