Dr. Evgueni Nesterov, LSU Associate Professor of Chemistry, received a Pfund seed grant to develop his research and become more competitive in acquiring Federal funding. His research objective is to develop light-sensitive fluorescent solid-state chemosensors that can be used in a broad range of applications, such as medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring and anti-terrorism activities. Preliminary results of his research obtained with the Pfund grant were included in his proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF) and he received a $580,000 NSF CAREER award, the most prestigious award for junior faculty to support early career development activities of faculty members most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century.
