An ITRS project at Louisiana Tech University is working to create a sensory system to recognize defects in and predict failures of critical infrastructure. Buried pipe systems deteriorate over time under the loads they were designed to accommodate. ITRS funding has supported the development of one of the most advanced pipeline condition assessment sensors currently existing, which uses innovative technology recognized by the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and featured at the 2009 InnovationState annual conference.
