Dr. Kanchan Maiti of LSU-Baton Rouge is undertaking research into the radioactive isotope Polonium-210 in the top-rated Research Competitiveness Subprogram proposal “Remobilisation and Bioaccumulation of Polonium-210 in the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia.” This project is important to the Gulf region and beyond, because human consumers of seafood receive their largest dose of natural radiation from Polonium-210 due to bioaccumulation in the marine food web.
